What is it with Boys and Star Wars?

Around noon I decided to lay down on the couch and close my eyes for a while. Needing a bit of quiet, I let my two youngest watch a movie downstairs. After a while, I joined them to see what they were watching. It was toward the end of Phantom Menace, a light saber fight. #4 had a double sided light saber, hacking and slicing along with the movie. My baby got a frantic look in his eye, and took off running. An outside observer would think he was scared, but I knew the truth. He returned, triumphantly bearing a rain stick his older brother made in cubs. It wasn't a saber, but it would do. It reminded me of my little brother. I have vivid memories of him in the bathroom, sitting on the toilet for what seemed like hours, singing that old familiar theme song; the sound, bouncing off the walls. There's just something about that movie series that electrifies little boys. My husband told us how convinced he was when he was a kid that the force was real. He and his best friend would sit concentrating with all their might, sure they were levitating a bit. Star Wars and Boys- they just go together.

I come from the non-Star Wars watching family, but I married a guy who liked it, and I still have not watched all of it. But my kids LOVE it. They love to fight with Light Sabers.

It's amazing what males can make into swords/ light sabers. The empty wrapping paper tubes that girl use as horns or telescopes, they are demolished in seconds in a little boy's hands, as are any precious items within sword-reach.

But is has just enough relationship stuff to attract some of the girl populus as well. After all, we can all probably tell you what Luke rode while on the ice planet, Hoth. Am I right?

Hey!!! What about Star Wars and girls? I loooooove Star Wars and used to pretend right along with my brothers. I always loved playing the damsel in distress- be it G.I. Joe, He-Man or Star Wars. In fact I still like playing the damsel in distress. It doesn't really fill like playing though, more like stressing. Happens at about 5:00 at night!

We also are a house full of star wars freaks...in fact for this years 6th birthday we had to make the fight scene when Anakin becomes Darth....complete with the ground breaking apart and the red lava beneath! After being Star Wars saturated for so long they have finally turned to Narnia for a while...complete with swords instead of sabers and run around the house yelling "for Aslan and Narnia"! I absolutely love the way you write...always makes me think!

You mean, your husband doesn't still believe in the force anymore? I'm pretty sure mine does. Glory Days, you know.
